According to the United Nations E-Government Survey 2010, the Netherlands ranks as number 5 in the top 20 of countries in e-government development. The United Nations E-Government Survey provides a comprehensive assessment of national online services, telecommunications infrastructure and human capital. The ranking is the result of a biennial global survey. In Europe, the Netherlands ranks as number 2 in e-government, preceded by the United Kingdom.
Part One of the report discusses the ways in which e-government can be leveraged to mitigate the effects of the financial and economic crisis on development. The report gives examples of how e-government can be used as a powerful tool to the achievement of the internationally agreed development goals including the Milennium Development Goals.
