Foreign minister Uri Rosenthal has condemned yesterday’s attack on the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya ‘in the strongest possible terms’. The US ambassador, Christopher Stevens, and three consulate employees were killed in the attack.

‘There can be no justification whatsoever for such a horrific act,’ Mr Rosenthal said. ‘My thoughts and sympathies are with the loved ones and colleagues of the victims.’

The Minister also expressed his condolences to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the US chargé d'affaires in The Hague.

Mr Rosenthal welcomed the fierce condemnation expressed by Libyan president Mohamed Magarief. According to the Minister it is crucial that the Libyan authorities restore security, particularly in Benghazi, and that those responsible for the attack are brought to justice.
