In southern Turkey foreign minister Uri Rosenthal visited Kilis refugee camp, situated on the border with Syria, where he spoke with refugees and the Turkish authorities running the camp. The Minister also met with Syrian activists.
The Nuclear Security Summit being hosted by the Netherlands in March 2014 will be held in the World Forum in The Hague, Minister of Foreign Affairs Uri Rosenthal announced today. Over 50 heads of state and government and representatives of international organisations are expected to attend the event, which will be chaired by the Dutch Prime Minister.
‘An open, uncensored internet is essential not only for the promotion of human rights, but also for innovation and economic growth.’ This was the message of Human Rights Ambassador Lionel Veer at the second Freedom Online conference, held in Nairobi. The conference, which was opened by Mr Veer and the Kenyan Minister for Information and Communication, Samuel Pogisho, follows the Hague Conference on Internet Freedom hosted by Foreign Minister Uri Rosenthal in December 2011.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Uri Rosenthal praised the achievements of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons on its 15th anniversary: ‘The OPCW has made tremendous progress in recent years and remains as relevant as ever to our efforts to create a world free of chemical weapons.’
