Negative travel advisory for Egypt
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against all travel to Egypt, with the exception of holiday destinations on the Gulf of Aqaba and the Red Sea, due to the deteriorating security situation in the country. Following an emergency meeting with ambassador Gerard Steeghs this afternoon, the ministry decided to issue the travel advisory after dozens of people were killed in violent demonstrations in Cairo this morning.
‘Dutch nationals are advised to consider whether they need to stay in Egypt’, said Ambassador Gerard Steeghs. ‘Anyone who decides to stay should keep a low profile, exercise extra vigilance and comply with all instructions issued by the army and the police. Visitors to the hotel resorts on the Gulf of Aqaba and the Red Sea are advised to be particularly vigilant.’
