Peace Palace centennial celebrations

The Hague has today been celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Peace Palace. On 28 August 1913 the Peace Palace opened its doors to organisations committed to creating a better and more just world.

The day began with an opening ceremony attended by King Willem-Alexander, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Minister of Foreign Affairs Frans Timmermans.

In the afternoon, Mr Timmermans chaired a ministerial conference on the peaceful settlement of disputes.
