Starting this week, human rights defenders from around the world may be nominated for the 2014 Human Rights Tulip, the Dutch government’s human rights award. On 9 December the Minister of Foreign Affairs will present the prize and the accompanying bronze tulip-shaped sculpture to the winner.

14 Dutch UN youth representative for Sustainable Development contributes to the High Level Political Forum on behalf of the Major Group for Children and Youth
On June 30th the second session of the High Level Political Forum [HLPF] held under the auspices of ECOSOC commenced. The HLPF has been given the mandate to monitor the progress of the Sustainable Development Goals. Ties Mouwen, Dutch UN youth representative for sustainable development delivered the following intervention on behalf of the Major Group for Children and Youth [MGCY] on the topic of sustainable production and consumption.

The Netherlands will add three Chinook transport helicopters to its contribution to the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in Mali (MINUSMA). In the vast area of northern Mali, the availability of transport helicopters is of great value to the UN mission. The helicopters will be used for medical evacuation, transportation tasks and tactical mobility.
Speaking after the first day of the Nuclear Security Summit, Prime Minister Mark Rutte said: ‘It was a good first day. As chairman of this NSS I’m very satisfied. This is only the halfway point, but I’m convinced we’ll be able to continue in the same excellent atmosphere tomorrow.’
