31 Prince Friso passed away

His Majesty the King announces with deep regret that His Royal Highness Prince Johan Friso Bernhard Christiaan David, Prins van Oranje-Nassau, Jonkheer van Amsberg passed away this morning at Palace Huis ten Bosch in the Hague at age 44.

32 Timmermans deplores violence in Iraq

Foreign minister Frans Timmermans has spoken out about the ongoing wave of violence that has recently engulfed Iraq, responding to reports by the UN that more than 1,000 people have been killed and over 2,300 wounded in violence over the past month.

33 Negative travel advisory for Egypt

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against all travel to Egypt, with the exception of holiday destinations on the Gulf of Aqaba and the Red Sea, due to the deteriorating security situation in the country. Following an emergency meeting with ambassador Gerard Steeghs this afternoon, the ministry decided to issue the travel advisory after dozens of people were killed in violent demonstrations in Cairo this morning.

35 Netherlands condemns executions in Nigeria

In the afternoon of Monday 24 June, Nigeria executed four people who had been sentenced to death. Foreign minister Frans Timmermans has condemned and deeply deplored the executions. 'The Netherlands opposes the death penalty in all circumstances', he said. 'I therefore call on the Nigerian government, at both federal and state level, to restore the de facto moratorium on the death penalty and refrain from further executions, in accordance with Nigeria's international pledges.'

36 Additional EUR 3 million for Syrian refugees

During his visit to Nizip, the Syrian refugee camp near Gaziantep, Turkey, foreign minister Frans Timmermans pledged an additional €3 million for the reception of Syrian refugees.
